Why Your Business Needs a Website, Instagram Alone Isn’t Enough.

As a web designer I'm often told businesses in 2026 don't need a website, they only need an Instagram account.

Social media is an incredibly powerful tool for your business, I use it myself, and I would never tell a client to shut down their social platforms and rely solely on a website. Social media is great for visibility, engagement, and generating sales and bookings.

However, platforms like Instagram have their limitations, especially when it comes to clearly explaining what you do, building deep trust and generating immediate sales and bookings.

There’s plenty of research showing that customers are far more likely to trust a business that has a website. It adds credibility, professionalism, and gives potential clients the confidence to go ahead with a booking or purchase.

A great example of this is my client Isabel at House of Belle. She runs a successful beauty salon in Rodley, Leeds, with a team of six self-employed beauty professionals. Together, they offer a full range of services including nails, lashes and brows, make-up, skincare, and waxing. Before having a website, the only way to understand the services on offer was to jump between profiles, dig through highlights for price lists, and track down the right booking link.

Now, everything is in one place.

The website has brought clarity and simplicity to the entire customer journey. Clients can easily view services, understand pricing, and access all booking links without the confusion. It’s streamlined, professional, and extremely user friendly.

And that’s the real value of a website - it doesn’t replace your social media, it strengthens it.

It gives your audience a central hub where everything makes sense, builds trust, and ultimately makes it easier for them to choose you.
